I don't think it's all that complicated. The "left" is frexibility, initiative, creativity, not trusting tradition, tolerance for ambiguity, asking "what if?" The "right" is the oposite: rigidity, following rules & guidelines, living with a baseball bat up one's behind.

Someone said it best when they defined a conservative as someone who does not believe that something should happen for the 1st time.
