Democracy CAN NOT work because it is competitive with one side having to put another side down, to win at the other's expense. Now that Europe has most of its shit sorted out & can see more eye-to-eye than in past centuries, it will, with the probable exception of Russia, be much more peaceful in the immediate future than the U$ which is ready to rip itself to shreds of unknown size, shape, or quantity because there is no way to sort out all the differences or to know whom one can trust.
